Power-to-Heat Systems (P2H)
Power-to-heat plants enable the targeted conversion of electrical energy into usable heat, thereby making a significant contribution to the sector coupling of the electricity and heat markets. Electric heating systems up to around 20 MW are used to efficiently absorb electricity from renewable energies or from periods of low exchange prices and convert it into thermal energy. The heat generated is often temporarily stored in large hot water tanks and fed into district heating networks or industrial processes at a later time.
Compared to conventional heat generators, power-to-heat plants are characterised by their high control speed, simple system integration and low maintenance requirements. They enable the reduction of fossil fuels and support municipal utilities and industrial companies in decarbonising their heat generation. In combination with heat storage tanks, power-to-heat plants create a flexible, economical and sustainable solution for utilising volatile electricity generation from renewable sources.
